You Didn’t Just Survive — You Were Chosen to Rise!

By Dr. T. D. Ikiriko | The Preacher Man. The Voice of Zion.

💔 Introduction: A Word for the One Who Feels Buried

There are moments in life when we don’t just feel broken — we feel buried.
Buried under pain.
Buried under betrayal.
Buried under the weight of things we never saw coming.

And like Lazarus, people walk past your tomb with flowers, assuming your story is over.

But hear me:
You didn’t just survive what was meant to kill you — you were CHOSEN to RISE.

Today, I want to speak to the wounded warrior, the silent struggler, the buried believer.
Let’s walk through John 11, the story of Lazarus, and discover how God turns tombs into testimonies.

📖 Anchor Scripture

John 11:43–44 (KJV)
“And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes:
and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.”

🔥 5 Life-Changing Revelations from the Lazarus Miracle

1. Being Loved Doesn’t Exempt You from Pain

“Lord, the one you love is sick.” – John 11:3

Lazarus was loved by Jesus, and still… he got sick.
That one truth destroys a toxic mindset: “If God loves me, I shouldn’t be suffering.”

No, beloved.
God’s love doesn’t always prevent storms — but it always speaks in the storm.

Your pain is not a sign of God’s absence — it’s proof that resurrection is coming.
God didn’t stop the sickness because He planned to use it for greater glory.

2. Delay Is Not Denial — It’s Divine Setup

“When he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed two more days…” – John 11:6

Two more days?

Why didn’t Jesus run to the tomb?
Why did He wait until the body was already decomposing?

Because Jesus was not trying to heal a sick man — He was about to raise a dead one.

When your situation seems beyond hope…
When even your friends have stopped praying for you…
THAT’S when God shows up in glory.

Your delay is a stage.
Your darkness is about to become His spotlight.
You’re not denied. You’re being prepared.

3. God Is Calling You By Name — Even in the Grave

“Jesus cried with a loud voice, LAZARUS, come forth!” – John 11:43

He didn’t say “Dead man…”
He didn’t say “Whoever is in there…”
He said “Lazarus.”

That’s personal.

🎯 He knows your name in the pit.
🎯 He knows your name under the rubble.
🎯 He knows your name even when the world has buried your reputation.

Lazarus, come forth.
John, come forth.
Ruth, come forth.
Pastor, come forth.
Dreamer, come forth.

God isn’t raising the crowd — He’s raising you.

4. You Can Be Alive and Still Bound

“He came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes…” – John 11:44

This is the tragedy of many believers:
They are alive — but not free.
They’ve left the tomb, but they still wear the grave.

🎯 They’re still bound by what happened in 2005.
🎯 Still wrapped in addiction, shame, guilt, depression.
🎯 They survived — but they can’t see, can’t walk, can’t breathe freely.

But Jesus didn’t just resurrect Lazarus — He commanded the people:

“Loose him, and let him go.”

Today, I command every graveclothes to fall off you.
You are not just meant to walk out — you’re meant to walk free.

5. You Were Raised for a Purpose

Lazarus was not raised just to return home and live quietly.
He became a walking, breathing billboard of resurrection power.

In fact, the Bible says in John 12:10–11 that the Jews tried to kill Lazarus because so many people were believing in Jesus because of him!

“Because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.”

🎯 That’s why hell fought you so hard.
🎯 That’s why you were buried prematurely.
🎯 That’s why you’ve faced relentless warfare.

Because your comeback is contagious.
Because your story will make others believe.
Because you were not just raised — you were chosen to rise for His glory.

🙌🏽 Prophetic Declaration Over You

🗣️ Let me speak into your life right now:

✅ You will rise from depression.
✅ You will rise from addiction.
✅ You will rise from financial death.
✅ You will rise from shame.
✅ Your family will rise.
✅ Your dream will rise.
✅ Your ministry will rise.

Lazarus, COME FORTH!
You didn’t just survive — you were CHOSEN TO RISE!

🙏🏽 Prayer of Resurrection

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for not leaving us in the grave.
Thank You for calling us by name.
Today I declare that every listener will rise out of every tomb of limitation.
Graveclothes are falling.
Destinies are awakening.
And purpose is being restored.
In Jesus’ mighty name — Amen.

📣 Final Words from Dr. T. D. Ikiriko

I am Dr. T. D. Ikiriko,
The Preacher Man.
The Voice of Zion.

And I declare over you:

You didn’t just survive…
You were chosen to rise.
You are not dead.
You are not buried.
You are not forgotten.
You are the miracle your family has been waiting for.

Come forth. Walk free. Shine for His glory!

Unfriendly Friends: They Are Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing

Unfriendly friends are people who pretend to care about you while secretly working against you. They smile in your face but stab you in the back. They celebrate your failures and envy your success.

Sometimes, these unfriendly friends are not just outsiders—they can be family members, relatives, or even people from your lineage. While some family members genuinely love you and would sacrifice their last pound to keep you alive, successful, and thriving, others are the exact opposite. These are the ones who act lovingly but secretly harbor jealousy, resentment, and ill intentions.

In African culture, such individuals are often referred to as household enemies—those who share your blood but do not wish you well. They are likened to "the snake under the grass" or "the rat that bites and blows air to deceive you."

Signs of Unfriendly Friends

These individuals may:
✅ Pretend to support you but secretly plot your downfall.
✅ Gossip and spread lies to damage your reputation.
✅ Use your weaknesses against you while acting as your confidant.
✅ Betray you when you need them the most.

Signs of Household Enemies

Within the family, they may:
✅ Pretend to love you but secretly compete with you.
✅ Celebrate your struggles and mock your success.
✅ Use your family history to limit your progress.
✅ Act as helpers but sabotage you behind your back.
✅ Spread lies and create division within the family.

Biblical References

📖 Joseph’s own brothers sold him into slavery out of jealousy (Genesis 37:18-20).
📖 Jesus warned, "A man's enemies will be the members of his own household." (Matthew 10:36).
📖 Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus’ disciples, betrayed Him with a kiss (Luke 22:48).

🔥 Prayer Points Against Unfriendly Friends 🔥

1. Prayer of Exposure

🛐 "O Lord, expose every unfriendly friend in my life. Let their true intentions be revealed, and let me not fall into their traps! In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!" (Psalm 55:12-14)

2. Prayer of Separation

🛐 "My Father, my Father, separate me from every Judas in my life! Let there be divine disconnection from those who seek my downfall. In Jesus' name, Amen!" (2 Corinthians 6:14)

3. Prayer of Divine Protection

🛐 "O God, shield me from every evil arrow of betrayal, jealousy, and wickedness. Let every tongue that rises against me in secret be silenced forever! In the name of Jesus, Amen!" (Isaiah 54:17)

🔥 Prayer Points Against Household Enemies 🔥

4. Prayer of Household Deliverance

🛐 "O Lord, arise and deliver me from every unfriendly friend within my family! Let every hidden enemy be exposed and put to shame, in Jesus' name! Amen!" (Micah 7:6)

5. Prayer of Ancestral Chain Breaking

🛐 "By the power of the Holy Ghost, I break every ancestral curse and evil pattern that has been passed down in my lineage! Every limitation and affliction from my family line, be destroyed in Jesus' name! Amen!" (Galatians 3:13)

6. Prayer of Divine Elevation

🛐 "O God, lift me above every household enemy! Let those who plot against me see me rise beyond their expectations. I shall be the head and not the tail, in Jesus' name! Amen!" (Deuteronomy 28:13)

🔥 Prophetic Declaration 🔥

📌 May the Lord arise and scatter every unfriendly friend in your life! You shall move forward, and their evil plans shall fail, in Jesus' name! Amen!

📌 May every unfriendly friend in your family be exposed! May their evil plans fail, and may God elevate you beyond their reach! In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!

THE RAPTURE: ARE YOU READY?

It will happen in the blink of an eye. One moment, the world will be carrying on as usual—people going to work, children playing in the streets, families gathered for dinner. Then, suddenly, millions will vanish without a trace.

Cars will swerve off roads with no drivers, planes will fall from the sky, and panic will grip those left behind. Mothers will search frantically for their babies, husbands will cry out for their wives, and entire cities will be thrown into chaos.

But for those who are taken, it will be the moment they’ve been waiting for—the glorious return of Jesus Christ.

What Is the Rapture?

The word “Rapture” doesn’t appear in the Bible, but the concept is undeniable. It comes from the Greek word “harpazo,” meaning to be suddenly caught up, seized, or snatched away.

Paul describes this mysterious event:

📖 "Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air..." — 1 Thessalonians 4:17

In an instant, the faithful will be lifted from the earth, meeting Jesus in the sky, escaping the horrors that will follow.

But here’s the most terrifying part: not everyone who calls themselves a Christian will go.

Who Will Be Taken?

Many believe that just identifying as a Christian is enough. That if they attend church, say a prayer before meals, or live a “good life,” they will be raptured. But Jesus warned otherwise:

📖 "Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name? Cast out demons? Done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from Me...’" — Matthew 7:22-23

The rapture is not for those who simply believe in God. It is for those who live for Him.

It is for those who are on fire for Christ, not lukewarm.

📖 "Because you are neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth." — Revelation 3:16

Will you be counted among the faithful, or will you be left behind?

What Happens to Those Left Behind?

Those who are left will wake up to a world they no longer recognize.

🚨 News reports will scramble for explanations.
🚨 Governments will declare a state of emergency.
🚨 Some will realize the terrifying truth—they have missed the Rapture.

And then, the Tribulation begins.

For seven years, the earth will be plunged into a nightmare of suffering:

🔥 Famine and war will spread like wildfire.
🔥 Demonic creatures will torment people for five months. (Revelation 9:5)
🔥 A world leader—the Antichrist—will rise, forcing people to take the Mark of the Beast. (Revelation 13:16-17)

It will be a time of unimaginable horror, and for many, survival will be impossible.

Some will finally turn to God, but at a great cost—faith in Jesus will mean death.

What Is the Timing of the Rapture?

Jesus said:

📖 "No one knows the day or the hour..." — Matthew 24:36

Yet, He also told us to watch for the signs:

📖 "You, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this day should overtake you as a thief." — 1 Thessalonians 5:4

One of the greatest signs? The rebirth of Israel.

🇮🇱 In 1948, Israel became a nation again—a key prophecy that signals the end times. A biblical generation can mean 40 to 100 years, placing us in a critical timeframe.

Could it happen tomorrow?
Could it happen in 10 years?

We don’t know the exact hour, but we do know this: the time is near.

The Jewish Wedding & The Rapture

In ancient Jewish tradition, a groom would propose, then leave his bride to prepare a home for her. She would wait, knowing he would return, but not knowing the exact day or hour.

Then, suddenly—with a blast of trumpets—he would arrive to take her home.

Sound familiar?

🔥 Jesus is our Bridegroom.
🔥 He has gone to prepare a place for us.
🔥 He will return suddenly, with the sound of a TRUMPET!

📖 "At the last trumpet, the dead in Christ shall rise first..." — 1 Corinthians 15:52

The only question is: Will you be ready?

This Is Your Moment

Right now, God is speaking to you.

This is not just another message.
This is not just a warning.
This is your invitation.

🚨 Don’t wait until it’s too late. 🚨

If you want to be ready for the Rapture, surrender to Jesus today.

🙏 Pray this prayer:

"Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I repent of my sins and turn to You. I want to be counted among the faithful. Come into my life, save me, and prepare me for Your return. Amen."

If you prayed that prayer, type "MARANATHA!" in the comments—it means "Come, Lord Jesus!"

And share this message with at least one person who needs to hear it.

The time is short. The trumpet will sound.

Will you be ready?

The Secret to a Powerful Prayer Life: 20 Powerful Prayer Tips That Will Transform Your Prayer Life✨🔥

Have you ever felt like your prayers are going unheard? Like you're talking to God, but the heavens seem silent? Maybe you wonder if there’s a “right way” to pray.

Beloved, the truth is—prayer is one of the greatest gifts God has given us! It is our direct line to heaven, our weapon in spiritual warfare, our source of peace, and our key to divine breakthrough.

If you want to experience God more deeply, see His hand move, and feel closer to Him than ever, these 20 powerful prayer tips will transform your prayer life!

1. Pray with Expectation 🎯

When you pray, do you truly believe that God will answer? Approach Him with unwavering faith, knowing that He hears and responds. A faith-filled prayer is a powerful prayer!
📖 "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." — Mark 11:24

🙌 Prayer Point: Lord, help me pray with faith and expectation, knowing that You can do exceedingly, abundantly above all I ask or imagine!

2. Be Consistent in Prayer 🕊️

Many people pray only when they face trouble, but true power in prayer comes from a consistent lifestyle of communion with God. Just like physical exercise strengthens the body, prayer strengthens your spirit.
📖 "Pray without ceasing." — 1 Thessalonians 5:17

🙌 Prayer Point: Father, help me develop a daily habit of prayer. Let my heart be constantly in tune with You.

3. Pray with Scripture 📖

God’s Word is a sword (Ephesians 6:17)! When you pray using Bible verses, you align your prayers with His will, making them more effective.
📖 "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword." — Hebrews 4:12

🙌 Prayer Point: Lord, teach me to pray using Your Word, so that my prayers will be powerful and effective!

4. Start with Thanksgiving 🙏

Before asking for anything, thank God for what He has already done! Gratitude shifts your focus from problems to His faithfulness.
📖 "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

🙌 Prayer Point: Lord, I thank You for Your blessings, mercy, and love. You have been so good to me!

5. Confess Your Sins & Seek Forgiveness 💔

Sin creates a barrier between us and God, but confession brings restoration. Humble yourself before Him.
📖 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." — 1 John 1:9

🙌 Prayer Point: Father, forgive me for my sins. Cleanse me and draw me closer to You.

6. Be Still & Listen 👂

Prayer is a two-way conversation. Take time to listen and let God speak to your heart.
📖 "Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10

🙌 Prayer Point: Lord, teach me to be still in Your presence and hear Your voice.

7. Be Specific in Your Prayers 🎯

Vague prayers bring vague answers! Ask God for what you need in detail, believing that He is able to provide.
📖 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." — Matthew 7:7

🙌 Prayer Point: Lord, I bring my needs before You today (mention specific needs). I trust You to answer in Your perfect timing!

8. Pray in Faith 💡

Doubt hinders prayers, but faith moves mountains!
📖 "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." — James 1:6

🙌 Prayer Point: Father, increase my faith! I trust You to do what You have promised.

9. Intercede for Others 🤲

Praying for others brings great spiritual blessings.
📖 "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people." — 1 Timothy 2:1

🙌 Prayer Point: Lord, I lift up (mention names). Bless them and meet their needs.

10. Pray Anytime, Anywhere ⏳

There’s no perfect time or place to pray. Talk to God throughout your day!
📖 "Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you." — Jeremiah 29:12

🙌 Prayer Point: Lord, help me cultivate a lifestyle of prayer, seeking You always.

11. Use the Name of Jesus 🔥

There is power in His name! Pray in Jesus’ name with confidence.
📖 "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son." — John 14:13

🙌 Prayer Point: I declare victory in Jesus’ name over every situation in my life!

12. Pray in the Spirit 🔥

When words fail, the Holy Spirit intercedes for you.
📖 "The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." — Romans 8:26

🙌 Prayer Point: Holy Spirit, guide my prayers and intercede for me!

13. Be Persistent 🔄

Keep praying, even when answers seem delayed.
📖 "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up." — Luke 18:1

🙌 Prayer Point: Lord, strengthen me to pray without ceasing.

14. Forgive Others 🕊️

Unforgiveness blocks blessings! Release every grudge.
📖 "Forgive, and you will be forgiven." — Luke 6:37

🙌 Prayer Point: Lord, I forgive those who have hurt me.

15. Pray with Boldness 💪

Come before God with confidence, knowing He loves you.
📖 "Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence." — Hebrews 4:16

YOUR YEAR IS CROWNED WITH GOODNESS

Beloved in Christ, imagine this: a crown—radiant, priceless, and regal—being carefully placed upon your year. Each jewel in that crown represents God’s blessings, favor, and abundance. Yes, this is the promise of Psalm 65:11: "You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance." This truth is not just a beautiful metaphor; it is a prophetic declaration over your life!

As we enter the final stretch of the year, some of you may feel the weight of unmet expectations, delayed dreams, or the scars of battles fought. But hear me clearly: God is not finished with your year! Evangelist Amina Dienye declared by God's word that 'your year is crowned with goodness'. God's Word assures us that He has already crowned it with goodness. Even in the places that seem barren, His paths drip with abundance.

A Year Marked by His Goodness

God’s goodness is not seasonal; it flows continuously. Every day, He weaves His plans for your good—even when the circumstances don’t make sense. That failed business, that broken relationship, that health scare—they are not the end. They are stepping stones to the revelation of His goodness in your life.

How to Walk in His Goodness

  1. Declare It Boldly: Speak life into your year. Proclaim Psalm 65:11 over every situation and watch God align circumstances in your favor.
  2. Trust His Timing: Sometimes His goodness is a process. Just because you don’t see it yet doesn’t mean it’s not on the way.
  3. Remain Grateful: A thankful heart attracts the fullness of God’s blessings. Celebrate every small victory and trust that bigger ones are coming.

A Prophetic Word for You

As an anointed vessel of God, I declare this over your life: The crown of goodness is already upon your year! What you thought was lost will be restored. What was delayed will be expedited. Your testimony will not tarry. The paths ahead of you will drip with abundance, and the latter days of this year will be greater than its beginning.

Do not lose hope, child of God. Rise up with the confidence that the King of kings has crowned your year with goodness, and His paths for you overflow with abundance. This is your year of breakthrough!

Share your testimony of God's goodness below and encourage someone today. Let’s flood this space with stories of His faithfulness!

The Secret to Thriving in Marriage: Learning to Overlook Some Things

Marriage is one of the most rewarding, yet challenging, journeys you can embark on. After over 20 years of experience counseling couples and living through the ups and downs of marriage myself, I can confidently say this: you don’t have to go into marriage if you cannot overlook some things. This may sound counterintuitive to modern notions of love that emphasize perfection, but it is a truth that has sustained countless relationships.

Overlooking doesn’t mean ignoring harmful behaviors or dismissing your own feelings. Instead, it’s about cultivating a mindset of grace, understanding, and forgiveness in the day-to-day realities of sharing a life with another person. Let’s explore what this means in practical terms and how it can transform your marriage into a resilient, joyful partnership.

The Myth of Perfection in Marriage

Many people enter marriage expecting perfection. They envision a spouse who checks every box, never makes mistakes, and always aligns with their own values and preferences. However, this mindset sets you up for disappointment. The reality is that marriage brings two imperfect people together, and imperfection is part of the beauty of the journey.

Learning to overlook some things means accepting that your partner is human. They will make mistakes, have quirks, and occasionally fall short of your expectations. Holding onto an idealized version of marriage only leads to frustration and resentment. Instead, focus on appreciating your partner’s strengths and working through challenges together.

What It Means to “Overlook” in Marriage

Overlooking in marriage doesn’t mean turning a blind eye to significant issues like abuse, neglect, or betrayal. Those require honest communication, counseling, and sometimes even separation. Rather, it refers to the ability to let go of minor irritations and differences that don’t impact the foundation of your relationship.

For instance, maybe your spouse leaves their socks on the floor, forgets to replace the toilet paper roll, or doesn’t share your enthusiasm for decorating during the holidays. While these things might bother you, they aren’t worth holding onto anger or starting an argument. Overlooking is about choosing peace over petty grievances and understanding that your relationship is more important than momentary frustrations.

The Role of Grace and Forgiveness

Grace is the cornerstone of a thriving marriage. It allows you to extend kindness and understanding to your partner even when they don’t “deserve” it. This is not about being a doormat; it’s about recognizing that both of you will need forgiveness and patience at various points in your journey.

Forgiveness is also key. No one gets through decades of marriage without stepping on each other’s toes. Learning to forgive quickly and genuinely prevents small issues from snowballing into larger conflicts. Holding onto grudges only builds walls between you and your spouse.

Practical Ways to Cultivate Overlooking

When my wife and I first got married, I thought I had everything figured out. I mean, how hard could it be? Love conquers all, right? But it didn’t take long to realize that marriage isn’t just about love; it’s about patience, compromise, and a willingness to overlook the small stuff.

Take the toothpaste cap. For months, I forgot to put it back on after brushing my teeth. It wasn’t intentional—I just didn’t think about it. But to my wife, it was like a flashing sign that screamed, “I don’t care.” We had a few heated exchanges over that tiny piece of plastic, but one day, she just stopped bringing it up. I later found out she decided to let it go, and honestly, that taught me a lot about what it means to love someone unconditionally.

Let me share a few things I’ve learned over the years about cultivating the art of overlooking in marriage. These lessons didn’t come from a book or a seminar but from real-life experiences in the trenches of a lifelong commitment.

Choose Your Battles

Early in our marriage, I felt the need to justify my every action. If she brought something up, I’d argue back, trying to explain my side. But one day, after a minor disagreement about where I left my shoes, I had an epiphany: not everything needs to be a battle.

Now, when something comes up, I ask myself, “Is this really worth it?” Nine times out of ten, it’s not. Learning to choose my battles has brought so much peace to our home. It’s amazing how much smoother things go when you let the little stuff slide.

Focus on the Big Picture

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is to focus on what really matters. When you’re living with someone every day, small annoyances can pile up and feel overwhelming. But whenever I find myself getting frustrated, I think about why I married her in the first place.

It’s not about the dishes in the sink or the lights she forgets to turn off. It’s about the life we’re building together—the family, the memories, the partnership. Keeping the big picture in mind helps me put those little irritations into perspective.

Practice Gratitude

It’s easy to focus on what your spouse does wrong, but it takes effort to notice what they do right. I used to get caught up in all the things my wife didn’t do the way I liked—until one day, I realized how much she does without expecting any acknowledgment.

Now, I make it a point to notice the little things, like how she always remembers my favorite snacks or how she supports me when I’m having a rough day. Gratitude has completely shifted my mindset. The more I focus on her positive qualities, the less I’m bothered by the minor things that used to annoy me.

Communicate with Love

Overlooking doesn’t mean bottling everything up. There are times when issues need to be addressed, but I’ve learned that how I communicate makes all the difference.

Early on, I’d say things like, “You always do this,” or “Why can’t you just…” Those conversations never ended well. Now, I try to frame things differently. Instead of accusing, I share how I feel. For example, “It would mean a lot to me if we could tackle this together.” That approach has turned potential arguments into meaningful discussions.

Pray Together

One of the best habits we’ve developed as a couple is praying together. Every night, we take a few minutes to sit down and talk to God. It’s not just about asking for help; it’s about thanking Him for each other and inviting Him into our marriage.

There’s something powerful about holding hands and praying with the person you love. It’s a reminder that we’re on the same team, even when we don’t see eye to eye. Prayer has been a game-changer for us, helping us navigate challenges with grace and unity.

Laugh Often

If there’s one thing that’s kept us going through the ups and downs, it’s laughter. Marriage can be stressful, but humor has a way of breaking through the tension.

I’ll never forget the time I forgot our anniversary. I was bracing for a serious conversation, but instead, she cracked a joke about how she’d trade me for a husband who remembered dates. We both laughed so hard, and that moment turned what could’ve been a disaster into a funny story we still tell.

Laughter reminds us not to take everything so seriously. It’s a way of reconnecting and finding joy, even in the midst of challenges.

Empathy and Understanding

There have been times when I’ve snapped at my wife over something small, only to realize later that I was stressed about work or something else entirely. She’s been gracious enough to overlook those moments, and that’s inspired me to do the same.

When she’s upset, instead of reacting defensively, I try to understand where she’s coming from. Is she tired? Overwhelmed? The more I practice empathy, the more patient I become.

Personal Reflections from 20+ Years of Marriage

After more than two decades of marriage, I've discovered that overlooking isn't a sign of weakness, but a testament to strength. It's not about ignoring problems, but prioritizing love and peace over perfection. We're two imperfect individuals who've chosen to navigate life together, and I've come to understand that the toothpaste cap, misplaced socks, and dishes in the sink don't define our marriage.

What truly defines us is the daily commitment to love, forgive, and overlook. I've chosen to overlook quirks, forgetfulness, and even occasional misunderstandings. Not because they're unimportant, but because our relationship holds greater significance.

I know my spouse has extended the same grace to me countless times, and this mutual understanding has fostered an environment where love can flourish, even during challenging periods.

Marriage is undoubtedly demanding, but it's an endeavor worth every effort. If you aspire to a lasting love, cultivate the art of letting go of the trivial. You'll find that the more you overlook, the stronger your bond will become. Trust me – after over 20 years of marriage, I can confidently say that it's the small acts of grace that build a lifetime of love.

When Not to Overlook

While overlooking is a vital skill, there are situations where it’s inappropriate or harmful. Issues like infidelity, abuse, or chronic disrespect require direct action and intervention. Healthy marriages are built on trust, respect, and safety, and these cannot be compromised.

If you find yourself in a situation where you’re constantly compromising your own well-being or values, it’s essential to seek help, whether through counseling or trusted support systems.

The Spiritual Dimension of Overlooking

Marriage is not just a union between two people; it’s also a covenant before God. As believers, we are called to emulate Christ’s love for the church—a patient, forgiving, and enduring love. This perspective transforms the act of overlooking into a spiritual discipline.

When you choose to overlook minor offenses, you mirror God’s grace in your relationship. This not only strengthens your bond but also deepens your spiritual growth as a couple. Praying together and seeking God’s guidance can help you discern what to overlook and what to address.

Building Resilience in Marriage

Overlooking is a skill that builds resilience in your marriage. It teaches you to focus on the bigger picture and equips you to navigate life’s inevitable challenges. Couples who master this art find that they are better prepared to handle the unexpected and can weather storms without letting minor irritations derail their relationship.

A Word of Encouragement

If you’re preparing for marriage or already in one, take heart. Learning to overlook is a process, and it’s one that will enrich your life and deepen your love. Remember, the goal is not to eliminate all flaws but to grow together in love, understanding, and grace.

Marriage is not about perfection; it’s about perseverance. With a commitment to overlooking and a focus on God’s design for marriage, you can build a partnership that stands the test of time.

Conclusion

Marriage is not about finding the perfect partner but learning to love an imperfect one. If you’re not ready to overlook some things, marriage may be a constant struggle. But if you can embrace grace, forgiveness, and understanding, you’ll discover the joy of building a life with someone who grows with you.

Remember, the goal of marriage is not to eliminate all flaws but to love each other despite them. It’s in those moments of overlooking that the true strength of your love shines through.

So, as you step into or continue your marital journey, keep this truth close to your heart: You don’t have to go into marriage if you cannot overlook some things. But when you do, you’ll find that the beauty of marriage lies not in perfection but in the grace to embrace imperfection together.
